In this seminar, Heide Otten offers some reflections on the ‘pushback‘ in Balint group work, on the development and consequences – pro and con – of this method,
asking the presenter to lean back after the presentation and just listen to the group without intervening. The role and responsibility especially of the leader will be
discussed. After the presentation there will be time for questions, input of own experiences and discussion.

Heide Otten is a German medical doctor, specialized in Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy. She has been involved in Balint work since 1977, a Balint group leader since 1987, trainer for Balint group Leaders and Supervisor for many years. She was Secretary of the German Balint Society (DBG) from 1991 until 2013 and President of the International Balint Federation (IBF) from 2001 to 2007. She worked in private practice until her retirement in 2020. She lives in Berlin.
